Affinity Photo review. Photoshop vs Affinity Photo

Everybody knows what is the Photoshop and for what it is. Even people who never used the computer once hear about Photoshop. Photoshop is a leader and standard software when it comes to raster design. Photoshop has a wide range of tools that you can use in many different ways, everything depends on your knowledge and imagination.

Well, as an industry leader it cost much more than other competitors. But, what if I’ll tell that that there another very young and cheap but in same time powerful design software that can be a worthy alternative to Photoshop.

UK company Serif has two alternatives to most popular design software Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer.

You can read about Affinity Designer here.

Affinity Photo developed as light and cheap alternative to the Photoshop. Photoshop users will adapt to interface very easily as an interface of AP very close to Photoshop interface. Same dark design maybe little bit darker that photoshop.

Tools icons in design panel a little bit different but,  you’ll recognize them very fast. Because even design of icons changed they are recognizable except several tools that are new in AP.

Dialog boxed working also similar except few features that are different from Photoshop. If you know how those tools works then you’ll need small time to get familiar with all tools and dialog boxes.

Photoshop and Affinity photo dialog box

Usability in the same level as in Photoshop. New users besides ex Photoshop users will adapt faster where which tool and dialog box located.

If you are using Photoshop and worrying about what will happen to your other PSD files, styles, brushes and other files, then Affinity Photo developers through about that as well. In AP you can import PSD files, styles, brushes, swatches from Photoshop.

What comes to Photoshop actions here you’ll meet with some problems as you can’t import them into AP. But here you can record your own actions. Here it calls Macro and you can record and save them to import later.

If you are looking for a cheap and light alternative for Photoshop that can do everything that Photoshop can do then, Affinity Photo for you.  Affinity Photo not a clone of Photoshop despite to the fact that most of the tools and interface very close to Photoshop. Serif company that developing Affinity photo tried to make It closer to the leader to make it easier to migrate for Photoshop users.
